Resolved Question: How to make a dc motor to run at very high speed..?

what type of dc motors can be used in making rc boat .. the motor should have high speed and high torque.. once i used an ordinary 1.5v dc motor in a boat but when i place the fan(propeller) in water its speed was fully reduced then i increased its voltage to 9V, the motor runs at high speed but the motor burnt after 1 min..in same manner i have burnt around 5 motors..now tell me is it possible to increase motor speed by adding extra components in the circuit. if it is possible, tell me how... i am a mechanical engineering student, i dont know much more about electronics components so please explain every bit...thanks..

Resolved Question: Miserable, depressed and fed up?

Im 22 and have already dropped out of an Electronics Engineering course, as I was ill, depressed and miserable. That was when I was 18. Since then I've done an HNC in Computing at my local college and skipped the first year of a 3 year BsC in Computing. However, last year was hell. I just about managed to scrape through with low marks. I would hate having to go in to class for lectures and would put them off as long as I could. When it came to the end of the year and I hadn't finished my work, I managed to get an extension based on a doctors letter - I was quite ill at the beginning of the year. That was last year, and now I'm in exactly the same boat. I have put off all the work and now my dissertation is late and i have 3 assignment deadlines looming. I'm not unintelligent so why do I keep doing this to myself? I feel miserable, hopeless and like a loser. I really don't want to drop out again but at the same time i feel like im just going to end up being depressed again. Meanwhile the deadlines get closer and the student debt has already been piled on. Why do I subject myself to this? Am i just destined not to get a degree? There must be an easier way. I'm a happy person by nature but each time I try to make something of myself i just feel so down. I need some advice I'm too ashamed to tell my parents that Im about to drop out for a second time :'( Ill try to stay off meds if I can but I'll definitely try to get an appt with the college counsellor Thanks for the post howard. im glad you have found something that you feel passionate about. I dont have that luxury. Originally I was going to try to become a computer programmer but I wouldnt say i was exactly passionate about it.. or particularly good at it. I just took this course to be doing something. I could take it or leave it really :/ I really have no idea what I want to do with my life.

Resolved Question: Was Collins submarine software like this ?

On July 10, 1969, British sailor Donald Crowhurst’s boat was found adrift in the Atlantic, ending a bizarre eight-month fake voyage around the world in a sailing race.Crowhurst Sails Around World Without Leaving Atlantic Donald Crowhurst, a Royal Air Force veteran and recreational sailor, was the owner of a failing electronics business that sold marine navigational equipment. In an effort to publicize his business and possibly win the £5,000 prize for the fastest time, he entered the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race, a nonstop solo sailing race around the world, in 1968. Crowhurst used his home as collateral to buy a trimaran, a three-hulled boat that is good for speed but dangerous in open water. He received funding from a local millionaire, Stanley Best, but he would be forced to return the money if he didn’t complete the race. With the help of publicist Rodney Hallworth, Crowhurst, “a self-confessed ‘romantic’ in search of fame and glory,” writes Robert McCrum in The Observer, became a national celebrity, hailed as an example of British pluck and ambition. He raced to install his own safety and navigational devices into his boat, the Teignmouth Electron, before the Oct. 31 deadline, but couldn’t complete his work in time. He wept in his wife’s arms the night before the race, but, fearing financial ruin, he refused to back out. The following day, with much of his safety equipment scattered in the boat or mistakenly left on shore, the “visibly unnerved” Crowhurst set out on a journey he feared he couldn’t complete. Early in his journey, Crowhurst found that the boat was leaking and that he had left an important part of his bilge pump in England. Realizing that he could not survive a trip around the Cape of Good Hope, and unwilling to face the humiliation back home if he pulled out, Crowhurst began faking results and then ended radio contact for 111 days while he sailed around the Atlantic. In the spring, when he was scheduled to reenter the Atlantic Ocean, he announced that he had completed his circumnavigation and was heading home. He was told that Robin Knox-Johnston had completed the race and Nigel Tetley would soon follow with a faster time. Crowhurst began sailing home, hoping that Knox-Johnston and Tetley would claim the prizes. However, when Tetley sank, Crowhurst was in a position to win the fastest-time prize. Knowing that his logs and account of the race couldn’t withstand the scrutiny he would receive, he became depressed and sank into insanity. Contact with Crowhurst was soon lost, and on July 10, 1969, his boat was found drifting in the mid-Atlantic, intact but empty. “His logbooks, which gradually lapsed into incoherence, provide a revealing case study of the effects of extended solitude,” wrote Time. They also indicated that he had never left the Atlantic. “There are no clues to what became of Crowhurst,” reported Time, but his final log entries led many to believe he committed suicide. “It is finished. It is finished. It is the mercy,” he wrote on July 1. He ended, “There is no reason for harmful …” In 1970, two British authors published “The Strange Last Voyage of Donald Crowhurst,” revealing the details of Crowhurst’s deception and madness to the world. “In the end,” wrote Sports Illustrated in a review of the book, “recognizing the futility of maintaining the deceit, he seems to have chucked himself into the middle of the Atlantic Ocean to escape the embarrassing consequences.”

Voting Question: Can you use a 12v electric motor hooked to an alternator to recharge the battery?

I am wanting to find a way to recharge a bank of 12v batteries that will power a boat stereo and the lights on the boat. I was thinking of using a 12v motor hooked to one or two alternators to recharge the batteries. The boat engine will be completely seperate. This is just to power my electronics. Is this possible?

Resolved Question: What are the limitations at Navy A-School?

Im going to be attending the AV (Aviation electronics) A-school in Pensicola this winter. Are there any limitations to the resources that I can take advatage of within the base? For example: My recruiter told me there is a mechanics department where I can work on my car, or even work on a motorcycle project. Will I have access to departments like this? or am I only considered a partial sailor at this point? Also, will I be able to rent a boat at the marina? Any tips or advice as far as A-school life goes? Thanks everyone that helps!!

Resolved Question: Financing gear with boat?

I know this is probably a stupid question, but I've never figured it out. If you were to get a (i.e $30,000) loan for a boat, and only spend $25,000 on the boat, could you spend the rest on electronics, safety equipment for the boat, fishing gear, etc? Like I said, probably a stupid question. Just curious. I mean it shouldn't matter as long as you pay it all back, right? You're basically just financing the equipment too.. I would think so anyway, haha.

Resolved Question: AECF vs SECF, please?

So I got alot of ratings and I Narrowed it down to about 5 ratings (ABF, SECF, HM, AECF, OS) Right now Im crossing ABF out but still want to keep the rest. Now, I need to narrow it down eve further (I need to make the decision by tomorrow). So I put AECF and SECF up so that I can choose one over the other so that I can have three (then I will eventually bring the decision down to two and Ill let my intuition decide from there).. I like both SECF and SECF but with AECF I feel like I can see the world more. I grew up on a boat (my father got a lot of inheritance so he never had to work much) and I worked on a local fishing boat as a ships unofficial Electronics technician (Operated ships radio, radar and did some navigation) and Medical Specialist (I was a licensed Paramedic but where I lived the captain couldnt afford to hire a doctor, all I did was treat until the coast guard could come on site) so being in the Surface navy would be more comfortable to me but then on the other hand I know NOTHING about SECF but the way my recruiter talks about it though, you dont get to see the sun much and you dont get to see ports (Im joining to get out of my town as Im headed nowhere with my life fast so being able to see the world and learn new things would be good). So right now im leaning towards AECF (I would LIKE FC but I know there is nothing I can do about that, only get top of my ATT class and get to pick.) but I would like a second opinion. Thanks guys
