Considering Buying A Boat Check Out These Guidelines

Expert Article By: News Canada

(NC)?Boating tends to be a family activity, so members of the family should be involved in the process of choosing the boat. Will it be a fishing boat most of the time? A water-ski tow machine? The basic picnic cruise boat? Determine what it is the family wants the boat to do, then go find the model to fit those needs. Most boats are multifaceted ? they can be fishing boats in the morning and ski boats in the afternoon.

Make notes of the family's "must haves," and "can do withouts." Determine your monthly budget for boat ownership and try to stick to it. But, don't give up a necessity for a few dollars that will cost you convenience or usage later on. Remember that you will often be inviting guests aboard, so plan a little extra room for them and for you.

Many boats are now being pre-packaged with motor and trailer as a complete unit. The manufacturers have been careful to outfit such products for the comfort of the average boater ... and the attractive prices of these units reflect cost savings passed on to buyers.

Generally, the packaged boat units will offer some power choice, so make sure there is enough push. Don't go overboard, either; too much power can be fuelish, costly or simply unsafe.

Remember that the dealer that sells the boat will be your partner for advice and service. He or she should be willing to listen to what you want in a boat, then make several recommendations. When the boat needs scheduled service or repairs, the dealer should be there to stand behind the sale. When shopping for a boat, also shop for the dealer you feel most comfortable with or one recommended by friends.

Finally, don't think you're making a lifelong commitment to a particular boat. It's not a marriage; it's more like an enjoyable relationship. That's because most boat owners trade up as their skills grow and needs change.

Open Question: 2003 4hp Nissan Outboard Question?

I recently purchased a 2003 4hp Nissan Outboard for my jon boat. The other day I had it on the water for the first time and it was giving me one heck of a time to start it up. I made sure it was in neutral and that the killswitch was not engaged. When I first started the engine, it only took about 3 pulls. Excited, i started to cruise the lake and about 200 yards into my trip, the engine just died on me. I tried to pull start it, and it wouldnt start. After about 10 minutes of continuous attempts at starting, it finally started again. It would die if it would idle really low. I would get it in gear and it would die again shortly after. So I decided to find the sweet spot on the choke and let her high idle for about 5 minutes. After about 5 minutes i pushed the choke in, and then brought it down to the low idle position, It didnt die, but then when i would engage in gear it would last longer but then die. I did this process for about one hour and the engine runs pretty descent but it will still die or have a hiccup, I also notice a backfire sound on occasion. Being motor illiterate, I have no idea the cause. Please Help Thanks

Open Question: How do I rig this up for my boat?

Hello all, i have recently got an old family owned 14 foot jon boat fixed up, and bought a 2003 4 hp Nissan outboard for it. The outboard runs pretty good, and pushes my boat around about 12-15 mph. However, me being a heavier guy, when im in the boat by myself, the bow is elevated into the air, and im worried that the back of the boat will take water in. So i figured i could take the middle seat and use a tiller extension for control. But is there an extension they make that i could start the motor just in the case it was to die and i need to start it back up? Its a narrow bottom boat, and im worried that it would flip, as its already pretty tipsy already. Also the boat has reverse, and i was thinking about a way i could rig something up to be able to do all my starting, shifting, and steering up front. I figured as far as the shifting goes, i could attach a rod to the top of the shifting knob that would allow me to push it rear for reverse, and pull it forward for neutral and forward. Am i asking to much? Thanks all

Open Question: Time Out Boxing: What would you do if you woke up tomorrow and you were RICH?

Let me define rich.........you go tomorrow morning to lift some money from your bank account and you see that you got someway somehow 15 million Euros (nearly 20 million $ I believe) This what I would do step by step : 1. Quit my job(s) as soon as possible 2. Buy this neoclassical with three basements 1.4 million house in Plaka with perfect view in Acropolis. 3. Buy a luxury apartment in Cannes with view on the ocean. 4. Buy land and build a hotel in Santorini. 5. Buy a 60' Scenic Boats Residential House Boat, with which I could travel the rest of the world http://www.yachtworld.co.uk/core/listing/photoGallery.jsp?ro=7&slim=quicknull&r=2372158¤cy=GBP&checked_boats=2372158&rs=yachtworld.com&boat_id=2372158&back=/core/boats/2011/Scenic-Boats-Residential-House-Boat-2372158/United-Kingdom&boat_id=2372158&noOfPic=1 6. I would put the rest 10 million (I have calculated that I would need about 5 million to do all the previous, or maybe a little less) in a Swiss bank's inventiveness program and take a monthly paycheck of 25-30 thousand from the interests alone, while my money would be 100% safe and taxes free (I love Switzerland haha). 7. I would send 50$ to all of you to go buy M&M's and candies ;) Lizard, last time I checked Greece produced the richest man of the 20th century, Onassis, you know the one who married your president's wife, while right now in 2012, Greece according to Forbes has 15 billionaires, while there's only ONE African-American billionaire, Oprah Winfrey......quite pathetic if you think how you live in the most powerful economy of the world. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Greek_billionaires I mean, you haven't been tired getting owned all these years from me? I got facts, numbers, statistics, all you ever got was nerve and the safety being behind a computer....... Anyways, for your information, when they say Greece is "poor" they mean by first world and developed countries, not ghetto African-American or Africa's standards, boy oh boy you will never learn :) Oh and yeah, one last thing, you can slap me all you want on a net forum.........in real life if you dared to do such thing (I high doubt you would even look at me in person) I would literally enslave you :)

Open Question: Hello my dear brothers and sisters. Have you made your donations to the church this week?

Just a little reminder. Remember, we must not forget to pay our dues. Summer is almost here, and we are counting on your donations to pay for our summer vacation. I for one am going to Las Vegas for 2 weeks to pray the sin away. A word from our sponsor !! Hi, it’s Vince with Shamwow! You’ll be saying wow every time you use this towel! It’s like a chamois! It’s like a towel! It’s like a sponge. A regular towel doesn’t work wet – this works wet or dry. This is for the house, the car, the boat, the RV! Shamwow holds twenty times its weight in liquid. Look at this! It just does the work! Why do you want to work twice as hard? It doesn’t drip, doesn’t make a mess. You wring it out, wash it in the washing machine. It is made in Germany, you know the Germans always make good stuff. You can cut it in half, use one as a bath mat, drain your dishes with the other one, use one as a towel. Olympic divers, they use it as a towel. Look at that! Completely dry! Put a wet sweater, roll it up, it dries your sweaters. Here’s some cola, wine, coffee and pet stains. Not only is the damage gonna be on top – there’s your mildew. That is going to smell! See that? The most absorbing We’re gonna do this in real time!

Open Question: sailing away on a one-man boat. should i be concerned?

I went through a traumatic separation with my ex, quit my job, and have been trying to get back on my feet again. my old relationships have been shaken by the roots, and it's been tough forming new ones. is this just a part of adulthood, standing on your own two feet, or should i continue trying to network? it just seems like its more trouble than its worth. don't get me wrong, friendships are the flowers in the garden of life, but there are so many other ways to spend time, like exercising or fine-tuning a hobby, and i feel like my luck has run dry in the arena of friendship-making.
